2014-2015 Outstanding Scholars
Joseph Dakki
Joseph Imad Dakki is graduating as an AP Scholar with Honors. Joseph plans on attending the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He will work towards a dual major in biochemistry and biophysics. Joseph served as President of the National Honor Society and is a member of Mu Alpha Theta. He is the recipient of the Flint Kiwanis Scholarship and has been named a Horatio Alger Michigan Scholar. Joseph is the son of Imad and Fatin Dakki.
Kayla Desotelle
Kayla Marie Desotelle is the daughter of Sheila Desotelle and Chuck Desotelle. She has been accepted into the nursing program at Saginaw Valley State University. She has been awarded the Founders Scholarship, was chosen for the Best of the Best Award, and is a Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Chapter Winner.
Jadyn Fuerst
Jadyn Elizabeth Fuerst plans on attending Spring Arbor University to study urban ministries. Spring Arbor has awarded Jadyn their Presidential Scholarship and their Women’s Cross Country/Track Scholarship. Jadyn has been named to Academic All-State. She is the daughter of Dean and Beth Fuerst.
Robert Jaster
Robert John Jaster is the son of Robert and Susie Jaster. Robert has been awarded the Trustee Merit Scholarship from Kettering University. He plans on pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering. While at Flushing, Robert earned his Varsity Letter in Track and Field. He also placed in the FHS Continental Math League 2014 competition.
Zoe Lapham
Zoe Korrina Lapham will attend the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor to study pre-med, bio-psychology, cognition, and neuroscience. Kettering University awarded Zoe the Kettering Presidential Scholarship. Zoe has been named an AP Scholar with Distinction and received a Letter of Commendation for PSAT Performance. While at FHS, Zoe was named the Most Outstanding Marching Band Member. She also received 1st place in the Mott Math Competition. Zoe is the daughter of Cheryl Wilson and Gary Lapham.
Andrew Schunter
Andrew Kcarl Schunter will attend Michigan Technological University to earn a degree in mechanical engineering. He is the son of Robert and Annette Schunter. Andrew has been awarded the Presidential Scholarship from Michigan Technological University, Kettering University and Western Michigan University. Andrew was named to All-Conference Academic in Track and Football. He was also named to 1st Team All-State Academic in Football.
Alexandra Shude
Alexandra Nicole Shude earned a 2nd place finish at the Flint Metro League Math/Science Competition in the Chemistry Lab division. She won the Most Effective Speech trophy from her church’s Teen Speech Club. Alexandra has also earned a Brown Belt in her work in Shotokan Karate. Alexandra is the daughter of Christopher and Deborah Shude.
Hannah Thoms
Hannah Marie Thoms plans to study anthropology at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She is the daughter of Mark and Jane Thoms. Hannah has earned 10 First Division Ratings at State Solo and Ensemble Festival. Hannah has earned the John Philip Sousa Award and the MSBOA Scholar Instrumentalist Award for her performance on the flute. For her performance on the violin Hannah has earned the National School Orchestra Award and the First Chair Award. She also earned a 1st place finish in the Flint Metro League Math/Science Competition in the Biology Lab division.
Christopher Triplett
Christopher Triplett will attend Spring Arbor University, where he has been awarded the Presidential Scholarship. While at FHS, Christopher has been named a Flint Metro League Scholar-Athlete and a Flushing High School Scholar-Athlete. He has also been selected for All-State Baseball and All-State Basketball. He is the son of Scott and Leigh Triplett.
Alex Voight
Alex James Voigt is the son of Ronald and Mary Voigt. He will be attending Michigan Technological University to study mechanical engineering. He has been awarded the Presidential Excellence Scholarship. Alex was also elected captain of FHS’s First Robotics Team.
