2015-2016 Outstanding Scholars
Natalie Dakki
Natalie Dakki is graduating with a 4.086 grade point average. She plans on attending the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor to major in biochemistry and biophysics. During high school she has been a member of the National Honor Society and the Environmental Action Group President. Natalie has been awarded many scholarships, including the Horatio Alger Michigan Scholarship, the High Achieving Involved Leader Scholarship, and the Michigan Elks Association Scholarship. Natalie is the daughter of Imad and Fatin Dakki.
Brooke Thomas
Brooke Thomas is graduating with a 4.080 grade point average. She will major in biochemistry and molecular biology at Bethel College in Mishawaka, Indiana. She has been awarded the Bethel College Scholarship. Brooke has been named Most Valuable Player for the FHS Golf Team and was part of First Team All Conference in golf for all four years. Brooke has been recognized as an Army Reserve National Scholar Athlete, the WNEM Best and Brightest Top Graduate, and an AP Scholar. She is the daughter of Mel and Kim Thomas.
Elsa Dougherty
Elsa Dougherty is graduating with a 4.078 grade point average. Elsa will be attending Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon where she will be pursuing a degree in music. She has been awarded many scholarships, including a Music Scholarship, a Trustee Endowed Scholarship, and the Jan Liepman Memorial Vocal Music Scholarship. She has served as the A Cappella Choir President and has earned an Excellent with Superior Distinction in Solo and Ensemble. She has also earned a Leadership and Service Award. Elsa is the daughter of Mark Dougherty and Carolyn Dougherty.
Jacob Kearney
Jacob Kearney is graduating with a 4.052 grade point average and he will be attending the University of Alabama to study aerospace engineering. He has been awarded the university’s Presidential Scholarship and the Engineering Leadership Scholarship. Jacob has earned the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America and he has received three Superior ratings at State Solo & Ensemble on the French horn. He was also recognized as a Mid-Michigan’s Best and Brightest Honoree, and has been selected for the Flint Metro League’s All-Academic Team. Jacob is the son of Todd and Colleen Kearney.
Matthew Karas
Matthew Karas is graduating with a 4.047 grade point average. Matthew will major in advertising at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida. He was named Most Valuable Player for the FHS Varsity Tennis Team and he was a State Finalist for the Business Professionals of America competition. In addition to the University of Miami President’s Scholarship, Matthew has been granted the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award and a Scholar Athlete Award. Matthew is the son of Mitchell and Sheryl Karas.
Benjamin Rempel
Benjamin Rempel is graduating with a 4.034 grade point average. While attending Calvin College, Benjamin will major in engineering. He has been awarded the Calvin College Academic Scholarship, the Vernon Ehler’s Scholarship, and the John and Edith Wilsterman Scholarship. Playing the viola, Benjamin has earned medals at Solo and Ensemble Region and State competitions. He is the son of Clarence and Mary Rempel.
Elizabeth Whitcomb
Elizabeth Whitcomb is graduating with a 4.034 grade point average. Elizabeth plans to major in elementary education at Saginaw Valley State University. She has been awarded the SVSU President’s Scholarship and the SVSU Foundation Scholar’s Program Scholarship. She earned a varsity letter in Lacrosee. Elizabeth is the daughter of Bob and Barbara Whitcomb.
Trevor Sauve
Trevor Sauve is graduating with a 4.020 grade point average. In the future he plans to study computer engineering. He is a member of the National Honor Society and has been named as a Flushing Scholar Athlete and a Flint Metro League Scholar Athlete. He has been recognized with the SCF Hockey Sportsmanship Award and has been granted the 2016 Eastern Michigan Hockey Association Academic Scholarship. Trevor is the son of Keith and Michelle Sauve.
Alexis Oliver
Alexis Oliver is graduating with a 4.017 grade point average. She plans to major in environmental science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Alexis has earned a varsity letter for volleyball and lacrosse. She has also been named a Flushing Scholar Athlete an is a member of the National Honor Society. Alexis is the daughter of Terry and Jennifer Oliver.
Conner Wallace
Conner Wallace is graduating with a 4.017 grade point average. Conner will be attending Kettering University to study mechanical engineering. He was awarded the Kettering Presidential Scholarship and the FIRST Robotic Scholarship. Conner served as FHS’s Robotic Team Captain. He is the son of Steven and Catherine Wallace.
Majd Abuaita
Majd Abuaita is graduating with a 4.013 grade point average. He will studying biochemistry at the University of Michigan-Flint. Majd has been named a Flushing Scholar Athlete and has received an Outstanding Athletic Achievement Award. Majd is a member of the National Honor Society and the Science National Honor Society. He is the son of Khaled and Sally Abuaita.
Elizabeth Newman
Elizabeth Newman is graduating with a 4.013 grade point average. She will be attending Hope College and plans to major in political science. Elizabeth has been awarded the Hope College Presidential Scholarship. While in high school she was named Most Valuable player for the varsity tennis team. She also served as the captain for the tennis team during her junior and senior years. Elizabeth is the daughter of Tom and Nancy Newman.
Clare Glowniak
Clare Glowniak is graduating with a 4.003 grade point average. Clare will be heading to Bowling Green State University this summer on a full ride basketball scholarship. She plans on studying medicine. Clare was recognized as a Flushing and a Flint Metro League Scholar Athlete. She was also named to the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan’s All State Team and the Saginaw Valley Conference All Academic Team. The Kiwanis of Flint recognized her as their January 2016 Student Athlete of the Month. Clare is the daughter of Tim and Melinda Glowniak.
Bryce Dunstan
Bryce Dunstan is graduating with a 4.000 grade point average. He will be attending Saginaw Valley State University to study pre-medicine. He was awarded the Dean’s Scholarship from SVSU. Bryce has been named a Flushing Scholar Athlete throughout the years in baseball, football, swim, and track. He has also been recognized as a Flint Metro League Scholar Athlete, an Academic All-State Honorable Mention, and as an All-League Honorable Mention Offensive Lineman. Bryce was also named Most Improved Player for Varsity Football. He is the son of Charles and Kristina Dunstan.
Emma Nettleton
Emma Nettleton is graduating with a 4.000 grade point average. She will be studying international relations at Michigan State University. She is a member of the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta. Emma was awarded the McNally Endowed Scholarship. She is the daughter of Jack and Carrie Nettleton.
