2022-2023 Outstanding Scholars
Alexander Lang
With a 4.108 GPA, Alexander William Lang is graduating valedictorian of his class. He is President of Rho Kappa Honor Society and of the Rotary Interact Club, Vice President of the National Honor Society, Secretary of the Science National Honor Society and of the 2023 Class, and member of Mu Alpha Theta. Alexander was Scholar Athlete all four years for tennis, earned 2nd Team All-League Tennis, and was the Captain of Varsity Quiz Bowl for his junior and senior years. He participated in the Varsity Club, Student Leadership Organization, Key Club, International Club, Rotary Club, and Student Council. Alexander received the October 2022 Student of the Month Award, the AP Scholar with Distinction, first place in Calculus at the 2022 Flint Metro League Math & Science Competition, FML All-Academic 2nd Team, and first place in Statistics at the 2023 FML Math & Science Competition. The son of Amanda and Nicholas Lang, Alexander plans to study Architecture at the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor, where he has received the University of Michigan Regents Merit Scholarship. He was also awarded the Genesee County Association of School Board Members Scholarship, Edgar L. Cornwell Scholarship, Flushing Athletic Boosters Scholarship, Michigan Achievement Scholarship, and the Elaine Alpert Stern Scholarship.
Amanda Colombo
Amanda Paige Colombo is the daughter of Gina and Michael Colombo. Graduating salutatorian of her class with a 4.100 GPA, Amanda plans to study Biology at the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor. She has been awarded the University of Michigan Regents Scholarship, Genesee GO Scholarship, Michigan Achievement Scholarship, Roberta Reed McWilliams Scholarship, True Blue Merit Scholarship, as well as the Leslie G. Ames Fund. Amanda is a member of the National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Secretary of Rho Kappa Honor Society, President of the International Thespian Society Troupe #2829, received the National Honor Thespian, ITS President’s List Scholar, and was voted Best Actress of FHS Theater Department in 2022. Additionally, she participated in the Flint Metro League Math & Science Competition.
Sophia Zuber
The daughter of Lisa and Martin Zuber, Sophia Eleanor Zuber will graduate with a 4.097 GPA. Sophia is a member of the National Honor Society, Vice President of the Science National Honor Society, President of Mu Alpha Theta for two years, Event Coordinator for Rho Kappa Honor Society, and Vice President of the Rotary Club. While at FHS, Sophia was also the Class President for four years, and Team Captain of the Varsity Quiz Bowl. Sophia is planning on attending Michigan State University where she will study Microbiology and Epidemiology. She has been awarded the Honors College STATE Scholarship, Michigan Resident Scholarship, McNally Endowed Scholarship, William H. Tunnicliff Memorial Scholarship, and the Professorial Assistantship Work Stipend.
Chloe Ziemelis
Chloe Helena Ziemelis is the daughter of Nancy and Peter Ziemelis. Graduating with a 4.095 GPA, Chloe plans to attend the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor where she will study Neuroscience on a pre-medicine track. Chloe is a member of the National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, and was Vice President of Mu Alpha Theta for two years. She was named Varsity Scholar Athlete for cross country and track, the 2022 Cross Country MVP, and 2022 Flint Metro League 2nd Team All-League for Cross Country. As an All-State Powerlifter, Chloe won third in the state in 2023, and 7th in 2022. Chloe was also the Captain of the track and cross country teams.
Eli Richey
The son of Nicole and Neil Richey, Eli Heath Richey will graduate with a 4.081 GPA. Eli is a member of the National Honor Society, Secretary of Science National Honor Society (2021-2022), and Treasurer of Mu Alpha Theta (2022-2023). While attending FHS, Eli received first place in Chemistry Lab from the Flint Metro League Math & Science Competition (2022), was an AP Scholar with Distinction, was the Michigan Technological University Leading Scholar Finalist, and made it on the University of Michigan - Flint Dean’s List. Additionally, Eli was Kettering University’s STEM Olympiad Scholarship Winner. Eli’s passion for music inspires his ability as a vocalist, and on a variety of instruments. Participating in the marching band at FHS, he received the FHS Band Musicianship Award, Marching Band Most Outstanding Member Award, and was the marching band woodwinds section leader (2020-2022). In 2021, Eli was the Royal Oak Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition Winner, was a State Honors Choir & All-State Choir Member (2022, 2023), and participated in the Central Michigan University Honors Band (2020, 2021). Additionally, he was given the coveted student-voted Alan Watterworth Award for “Top Male Singer of A Cappella Choir.” Eli plans to study Biomedical Engineering at the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor, and was awarded the Roberta Reed McWilliams Scholarship.
Chloe Neu
Chloe Jasmine Neu will attend Grand Valley State University, where she will study Pre-Law. She has received the Grand Valley State University's Presidential Scholarship. She is also a member of the National Honor Society and the National Art Honor Society. While at FHS, she was the Captain of the Robotics Team and her art was featured on the art show brochure. She will graduate with a 4.076 GPA. Chloe is the daughter of Heather and Dan Neu.
Megan Colombo
Daughter of Gina and Michael Colombo, Megan Grace Colombo will graduate with a 4.073 GPA. Megan is a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and Rho Kappa Honor Society. She was also named Historian of the International Thespian Society and received the National Honor Thespian as well as the ITS President’s List Scholar. Megan will attend the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor, where she will study Computer Science. She was awarded the Edgar L. Cornwell Scholarship.
Christian Tanner
Christian David Tanner is the son of Jennifer and Dennis Tanner. Christian will attend Evangel University where he will study Chemistry. Graduating with a 4.068 GPA, he is a member of the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta. While at FHS, Christian was named Scholar Athlete, and won first place in Calculus at the Flint Metro League Math & Science Competition. He also received the Scholars Award, Sibling Scholarship, Pell Promise Guarantee Scholarship, his Church Matching Scholarship, and Genesee GO Scholarship.
Julie McNamara
Graduating with a 4.060 GPA, Julie Katherine McNamara is planning to attend University of Michigan - Flint, where she will study Sociology. She is a member of the National Honor Society. While at FHS, Julie was named Scholar Athlete all four years, was the 2nd Team All-League Kicker, and won third place in the 132-lb. weight class in the Michigan High School Powerlifting Association (MHSPLA) State Meet. Julie was awarded the True Blue Merit Scholarship (granting full cost of tuition) and is the daughter of Breanna McNamara and Christopher McNamara.
Shaney Czyzio
Shaney Patrice Czyzio is the daughter of Maria and Chris Czyzio. Shaney will attend Michigan Technological University where she plans to study Chemical Engineering. She is a member of the National Honor Society, the Science National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Rho Kappa Honor Society, and the International Thespian Society. Shaney has received the ITS President’s List Scholar, Michigan Tech's Presidential Scholars Award, Michigan Tech's Leading Scholars Award, the Barbra J. Yott Memorial Award, the Edgar L. Cornwell Scholarship, and the Certificate of Merit from the Society of Women Engineers. While at FHS, Shaney, a bassoon player, was a section leader for the woodwinds, received Best Technician for Theater, as well as the Director’s Award for Band. She will graduate with a 4.049 GPA.
Emma Forrest
The daughter of Karri and Matt Forrest, Emma Elisabeth Forrest will graduate with a 4.036 GPA. Emma is a member of the National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, and Mu Alpha Theta. While attending FHS, she was a Scholar Athlete. She will attend Western Michigan University (WMU), where she will study Aviation. Emma has been awarded the WMU Achievement Scholarship, Michigan Achievement Scholarship, and the Bronco Merit Scholarship.
Grace Kassuba
Grace Anne Kassuba is a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and Rho Kappa Honor Society. As one of the high honors top scholars, she will graduate with a 4.030 GPA. Grace plans to study Bio-Systems and Environmental Engineering at Michigan Technological University, where she has received both the Presidential Platinum Scholar and the Distinguished Leader Tech Scholarships. In addition, Grace was awarded the GreenStone Academic Scholarship, Flushing Athletic Boosters Scholarship, and the Roberta Reed McWilliams Scholarship. While attending FHS, Grace was named the Scholar Varsity Athlete for golf, skiing, and soccer, was distinguished as the MVP for skiing, the Captain for two years for both varsity golf and varsity skiing, and was the President of the Rotary Club. Grace Anne Kassuba is the daughter of Anne and Matthew Kassuba.
Jaxson Hicks
The son of Hillary and Charlie Hicks, Jaxson Grant Hicks will graduate with a 4.029 GPA. Jaxson is a member of the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta. While attending FHS, he was a Scholar Athlete, the Team Captain for football and wrestling, was the 2nd team defense for football for the league, League Champion at 215 lbs. for wrestling, placed 7th at the state competition for D-1 schools in the 215 lb. weight class for wrestling, and participated in wind ensemble. After graduation, Jaxson plans to serve in missions with his church, and will eventually pursue a pre-medicine program.
Megan Jakubos
Megan Lynnea Jakubos is the daughter of Heidi Jakobus and Steven Jakubos. Graduating with a 4.017 GPA, Megan plans to study Occupational Therapy at Mott Community College. She is a member of the National Honor Society. Megan has participated in choir while attending FHS and has been the Acapella Choir Officer. Additionally, she was given the coveted student-voted Esther Way Award for “Top Senior Female of A Cappella Choir.”
Garrett Carvounis
The son of Jennifer and Tom Carvounis, Garrett Matthew Carvounis is graduating with a GPA of 4.015. Garrett is a member of the National Honor Society, the Science National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and the Rho Kappa Honor Society. In February of 2023, he was awarded FHS Student of the Month. Additionally, he will be graduating from his senior year at FHS with High Honors. Garrett was also awarded a third place Achievement for MITES (Michigan Industrial and Technology Education Society). He was an appreciated contributing member of the Flint Metro League Math & Science Competition that took place in April of 2023. Garrett will be attending Michigan State University in pursuit of a degree in Archaeology and Anthropology.
