2023-2024 Outstanding Scholars

Dyllon Denton

Dyllon Jay Denton is graduating as valedictorian of his class with a 4.151 GPA. He is a member of the Mu Alpha Theta, Science National Honor Society, and National Honor Society. Dyllon received first place in the Flint Metro League for Trigonometry in 2023 and was selected for the Flint Metro League for Chemistry in 2022. He obtained the AP Scholar with Distinction Award and was the high scoring student for the Michigan Math League in 2023. Dyllon is the son of Ross and Jodi Denton and plans to attend the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He is interested in studying Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or Biblical Studies.

Grant Taft

Grant Courter Taft is graduating as salutatorian of his class with a 4.116 GPA. He is the son of Steven Taft and Nancy Taft.. He is a member of the Mu Alpha Theta, Science National Honor Society, National Honor Society, and Rho Kappa Honor Society. Grant plans to attend the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor to study Mathematics.

Andrew Tunnicliff

Andrew Paul Tunnicliff is the son of Steven and Melissa Tunnicliff and is graduating with a 4.09 GPA. Andrew is a member of the National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, and Mu Alpha Theta. He has been a Scholar Athlete all four years of high school for each of the three sports seasons. He has been part of the Varsity Cross Country for three years. He was the Captain his junior year and voted the Most Inspirational in the 10th and 11th grade. Andrew was on the Cross Country third Team All-Metro League in 10th grade. He was on the Varsity Basketball team for two years, Captain his senior year, and received the Coaches Award. Andrew was on the Varsity Track and Field for four years, Captain for his 11th and 12th grade years. In 9th and 10th grade for Track and Field, he was two times First Team All-Metro League for the 4x800m Relay. He participated in Varsity Football for one year and was a member of the Academic All-State Team. He was a two time Participant in the Metro League Math and Science Competition and held High Honors for all four years of high school. He is unsure where he wants to attend college to study Physical Therapy.

Khloe Burba

Khloe Jean Burba is the daughter of Mark and Kari Burba. She is graduating with a 4.086 GPA. Khloe is a member of the Mu Alpha Theta, Science National Honor Society, National Honor Society, and Rho Kappa Honor Society. She is a Scholar Athlete and the Cross Country Team Captain. Khloe plans to attend Lipscomb University in Tennessee to study Nutrition.

Zachary Woodzell

Zachary John Woodzell is the son of Scott and Carolyn Woodzell and is graduating with a 4.086 GPA. Zachary is a member of the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta. For the FHS Marching Band, Zachary received the Most Outstanding Marching Band Member Award twice, Most Outstanding Brass, and the Barbra J. Yott Memorial Award. He was also voted Most Outstanding Sophomore, Junior and Senior. He was the Section Leader in High Brass, a Soloist, and selected to be the first trumpet in Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, and Pep Band. Zachary was a Scholar Athlete for Varsity Track. He has participated in the Flint Metro League for Math and Science Competition. In 2022, Zachary earned 1st place in Algebra II and in 2023, earned 3rd place in Physics. He was also the Vice President of Mu Alpha Theta, an AP Scholar with Honors, and has been picked twice for Student of the Month. He is receiving the U of M Regents Merit Scholarship and the Genesee County Association of School Board Members Scholarship. Zachary plans to attend the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor to study Industrial and Operations Engineering.

Kelsea Burba

Kelsea Joyce Burba is the daughter of Mark and Kari Burba. She is a member of the Mu Alpha Theta, Science National Honor Society, National Honor Society, and Rho Kappa Honor Society. Kelsea is graduating with a 4.077 GPA and is a Scholar Athlete for Track and Field and Cross Country. Kelsea has been awarded the President’s Scholarship from Biola University. She plans to study Elementary Education at Biola University in California.

Jade LaGore

Jade Peighton LaGore is the daughter of Joel and Sonya LaGore and is graduating with a 4.062 GPA. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society,  Rho Kappa Honor Society, and has been on the Varsity Tennis team for three years. Jade held the title of Flushing High School Orchestra Concertmaster and also served as an interchangeable concertmaster for the Flint Youth Symphony Orchestra. She has been awarded the Academic Merit Scholarship and Talent-Based Violin Scholarship and served as the First Violinist in the Dort Honors String Quartet. Jade plans to attend Belmont University in Tennessee to study Violin Performance.

Ethan Wood

Ethan Lee Wood is graduating with a 4.059 GPA. Ethan plans to attend the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor to study Mechanical Engineering. He is the son of Don Wood and Sarah Wood.

Lainey Prim

Lainey Renee Prim is the daughter of Justin and Rachel Prim. She is a member of the National Honor Society and is graduating with a 4.035 GPA. Lainey is a Flushing Raider Early College student and cohort leader. She held several roles in plays and musicals with the International Thespian Society. Lainey was part of the A Capella Choir, Marching Band, Beta, and Madrigals. Lainey plans to attend Mott Community College to study Secondary Education.

Noah Pipes

Noah Douglas Pipes is a member of the National Honor Society and Rho Kappa Honor Society. He is the son of Kenny Pipes and Debra Pipes and is graduating with a 4.034 GPA. Noah took second place in the 12th grade Spelling Bee. He plans to study History at the University of Michigan-Flint.

Carson Meredith

Carson Patrick Meredith is the son of Kevin and Wendy Meredith. He is a member of the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta. Carson joined the Robotics Team in 8th grade and remained on the team for five years. He is graduating with a 4.021 GPA. Carson plans to attend Oakland University or the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor to study Computer Science.

Ella Valerio

Ella Mae Valerio is graduating with a 4.021 GPA. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and Rho Kappa Honor Society. She is a Scholar Athlete and received the Leadership Award for Dance. Ella is the daughter of Christopher and Kimberly Valerio and plans to attend Western Michigan University to study Accounting and Dance.

Kate Burba

Kate Elizabeth Burba is graduating with a 4.017 GPA. She is the daughter of Mark and Kari Burba. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and Rho Kappa Honor Society. Kate plans to attend Point Loma Nazarene University in California to obtain a degree in Education. Kate was a Scholar Athlete for Track and Cross Country in 9th, 10th, and 11th grades. In her senior year, she won the 2024 Genesee County DAR Good Citizens Award and Essay, was named Rotary Student of the Month, and was a high-score participant in the 2024 District Orchestra Solo and Ensemble. Kate received the AP Scholar with Honors Award her junior year. In 2023-2024, Kate was the FHS Rotary Club Co-President, Class of 2024 Officer, and the National Honor Society Officer. She has been awarded the President’s Green Merit Scholarship from PLNU.

Allison Miller

The daughter of Stewart and Martiel Miller, Allison Elaine Miller is graduating with a 4.017 GPA. Allison is a member of the National Honor Society and is a Scholar Athlete for Cross Country and Track and Field.  She plans to study Nursing at the University of South Florida.

Benjamin Valles

Benjamin Kennedy Valles is the son of Lauro Valles and Maryscott Valles. He is graduating with a 4.017 GPA. He plans to attend the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor to study Mechanical Engineering.

Kole Andrews

Kole Jackson Andrews is the son of Troy and Shawn Andrews. Kole is graduating with a 4.012 GPA and is interested in studying Nursing at Oakland University. He is a member of the National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and Rho Kappa Honor Society. Kole has been the Football Team Captain, All Region Offensive Line, and on the first and second team All Metro League Offensive Line. He has also received the Academic All State Football and Academic All State Baseball Awards.

Owen Foltz

Owen Spencer Foltz is the son of Kevin and Wendy Foltz. Owen is graduating with a 4.012 GPA. He is a member of the National Honor Society and a Scholar Athlete. Owen received the All Metro Team Placement in Track and Cross Country. He is a Rotary and Varsity Club Member, along with being a four year Varsity Athlete. Owen plans to attend Michigan State University to study Finance.

Emily LaBombard

Emily Nicole LaBombard is the daughter of Gary and Carla LaBombard. She is graduating with a 4.006 GPA. She is a member of the National Art Honor Society and is the Vice President of the Student Leadership Organization. Emily plans to attend Saginaw Valley State University to study Visual Arts Education and has been awarded the SVSU Founder’s Scholarship.

Brooklyn Gooch

Brooklyn Rae Gooch is the daughter of Robb and Midge Gooch. She is a member of the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta. Brooklyn is a scholar athlete and the Varsity Lacrosse Captain. She is graduating with a 4.004 GPA and has been awarded the Faculty Scholarship from GVSU. Brooklyn plans to attend Grand Valley State University to study Biology.

Lauren Popovits

Lauren Elizabeth Popvits is the daughter of John and Chrissy Popovits and is graduating with a 4.004 GPA. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and Rho Kappa Honor Society. She has been awarded the Trustee (Merit) Scholarship, Women in Engineering Scholarship, and the Robotics Scholarship, all from Kettering University. Lauren was the Game Captain of the Raider Robotics Team in 2023 and 2024. She was named the Rotary Student of the Month for December 2023 and was a L.I.T.E.S. Participant at Kettering University. She received the Certificate of Merit from the Society of Women’s Engineers and held the Mu Alpha Theta Gatekeeper status for 2023 and 2024. Lauren participated in ‘Adopt-a-Class’ for a second grade class at Springview. She plans to attend Kettering University to study Electrical and Computer Engineering.

Abigail Miller

Abigail Grace Miller is the daughter of Stewart and Martiel Miller and is graduating with a 4.0 GPA. She is a member of the National Honor Society and was a Track and Field Scholar Athlete her freshman and sophomore years. She plans to study Advertising at the University of South Florida.
